Trend: Winter.

It’s time to get cosy. There’s no hiding from this bitter winter but it’s these cold, dark months that play hostess to some of the best fashion and room trends around. Our catwalks have been graced by practical plaids and chunky wool’s and now all this winter wonderfulness is making its way into our homes.

Think textures, layers, cosy throws and chunky knits, roaring fires and perfectly comfy sofas to put your feet up on. The mood is warm and cosy, where natural colours come to life with the faintest tones of autumn and the slight hints of spring. If you choose a few key pieces wisely, you can really improve the ambiance in your home without going overboard. Just because it’s Christmas and cold outside, doesn’t mean you have to go over the top with colours, accessories and decorations.

The colour of the moment is matte grey and aside from creating the textbook backdrop, it’s perfect for accessorising around. Adding chunky throws and layering EVERYTHING really adds depth and warmth to any space, so even the biggest of rooms can feel homely and welcoming. Some key colours that match perfectly with matte grey or natural creams and beige are duck egg blues, pale purples and burnt out orange. Adding a subtle hint of a brighter colour will bring your room to life without too many colours and patterns that scream chaos. Cushions, lamp shades and curtains are great for this and they can really brighten up your space whilst tying it all together.

Animals have a place in our heart so it’s no surprise that they are big in prints this year. From cushions to bedding and ornaments, birds and barn animals are very popular for creating a subtle woodland feel to any room. Your country retreat wouldn’t be complete without some tartan plaids and if you don’t want to drastically re-design a room, just adding a cushion or two can really make a difference.

So it’s time to put your feet up, get cosy and admire your gorgeous winter interior.
