With so many styles, colours, shapes and fabrics available, choosing the perfect sofa for you and your living room can seem a difficult decision, but with a bit of advice from the experts it doesn’t need to be.
Simon Nicholson, Furniture Buying Director at ScS, has put together his top tips that will help make buying your next sofa as simple as one, two, three.
“There are many important factors to take into account when choosing a sofa, but one of the most important is the size and shape. By measuring your living room, you’ll have a much better idea of what shape and size of sofa or seating combination will fit in your room perfectly, whether two, three or four seater, designer curved or corner sofa, to really maximise the floor space and offer the seating arrangements you need. Deciding on the shape and size is a great first step before choosing fabrics and patterns.
“Choosing between fabric and leather is an important choice too, and one best made based on your lifestyle needs. For instance, leather sofas may not be as suitable if you have pets, but may be a sensible choice if you have children. And, when it comes to fabric sofas if you’re a busy person or are looking for something with little maintenance a scatter-back may not be right for you. However, fabric sofas can help give your living room a cosy feel and contemporary look, while leather can give a more natural look with a warm lived in appeal that matures with age, they are also available in a wide range of stylish colours giving a smart, sleek design that also give a modern feel to any room.
“When picking the colour of your sofa, this should ideally be based on the décor of your home, however your tastes and personality can play a part. Neutral coloured sofas will allow you to do more with your room over time, such as creating a feature wall, updating your wall colours, and accessorising with accent scatters and decorations, however if you want to make a real statement a brighter, more vibrant sofa can be the perfect focal point of the room and your home.”
