Fighting cancer is one of the biggest battles that some of us may have to face. This battle is a very real and personal one to our HR team, with three members of the team fighting and surviving cancer.

In celebration of our lovely staff beating the disease, the HR department has decided to stand together as a team and raise money for the wonderful people at MacMillan Cancer Support.

In just six days, the team will be walking a whopping 100 miles, but not just any old 100 miles…. They’ll be walking the entire length of Hadrian’s Wall, from Bowness-On-Solway to Sunderland.

Marie Liston, our Corporate Services Director, alongside HR Manager Kim Turnbull, has signed up for the full stretch, and will look to conquer Hadrian’s Wall in aid of a great cause.

The team will be undertaking their venture over the Easter weekend – a time known for its unpredictable weather, but fear not, under the guidance of their fearless leader Marie, the team are determined to complete the challenge.

Hadrian's Wall MacMillan

Linda’s found training pretty tough so far….

Linda McKenna (cancer survivor and our Payroll Manger), Lynda Alexander (Training Manager) and Lesley Anne Dolan (Payroll Officer) will be joining Marie and Kim each day of their trek, while Michelle Hunter, Corrinne Dockwray, Alex Bell, Leanne Mordue and fellow cancer survivor, Margaret Potts, will all join along the way.

The team plans to cover an average of 17 miles per day, operating a tag team system to ensure Marie and Kim have plenty of company to keep motivation high throughout.

Hadrian’s Wall runs for a duration of 84 miles, so once they have reached Wallsend, they will turn and continue to walk a further 16 miles and finish at our Sunderland store, thus completely a 100 mile walk.
