We are extremely proud to announce our donation of a custom-made armchair to Hazel Oak School, an all age special school for children with moderate learning difficulties in Solihull.

The cosy chair will now take pride of place in the school’s newly-refurbished library, and enable the teachers and learning-support staff to create an inviting space for the children to read.

The armchair, specially designed and created by UK furniture makers Ashley Manor, based in Dudley, is upholstered in soft, textured fabric, with bright cushions, to heighten the senses and create a relaxed learning environment, as chosen by the school.

Rachel Easthope, Teacher at Hazel Oak School, said: “We’re a small school for children and young adults with special needs, and we wanted to make the school library more suitable for their needs which is why we approached ScS to see if they could help. We had a very limited budget for the library, including purchasing books, so are delighted that ScS were able to help us with the giant chair and were overwhelmed by their kindness and generosity.”

“The children love their new special armchair, and its sensory properties are perfect for their needs. We’re extremely grateful to have received the donation and know that the children will get many years of use and comfort from it.”

David Knight, CEO at ScS, said: “When we were contacted by Miss Easthope at Hazel Oak asking to help to furnish the children’s library we were keen to help with such a worthwhile improvement project and give the pupils a special place to learn and develop.

“Thanks to our supplier, Ashley Manor, we were able to create a bespoke sensory chair for the children to enjoy. We hope that everyone at Hazel Oak can benefit from the addition to the library and are glad to have been able to help.”

He said: “It was really nice to see how excited the children, and teachers, were when we turned up with their new addition. As well as the new armchair, we also donated a selection of new books to help kick start the school’s library collection, all of which we hope will contribute towards a greater reading environment for the pupils for years to come.”
