Our top five series to watch this winter

Many of you may have got the New Year’s fitness bug, but we all know that there’s nothing better than good TV as you snuggle up on the sofa on a cold winter’s night.

2017 is showing early promise with a number of exciting shows appearing on the air. To help you get started, we’ve picked our top five series to get your teeth into this winter.

Taboo (BBC)

Are you a Tom Hardy fan? After seemingly returning from the dead, Hardy is back in his hometown to claim his father’s estate, and there are plenty of twists along the way. Taboo is a slow burner, but a gripping drama at the same time. Give it some time, you’ll not be disappointed.

Sherlock (BBC)

If you’ve missed the brilliance of Benedict Cumberbatch over the last month, don’t panic, it’s available on catch up. With a deeper storyline that ever before, this season will really get the brain working, and may even leave you slightly lost at times – in a good way!

Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (Netflix)

This adaptation of Daniel Handler’s best-selling children’s novels follows the Baudelaire orphans as they find themselves perpetually hounded by Count Olaf (Harris), a mysterious and sinister figure hell-bent on landing their inherited fortune.

Fortitude (Sky Atlantic)

Christopher Eccelston and co. are back with a whole new threat in their quiet, isolated Antarctic community . Season one was a massive success, and this series is set to be just as gripping as the last, with the addition of Dennis Quaid, Parminder Nagra and former Game of Thrones actor Michelle Fairley added to the mix.

Billions (Sky Atlantic)

The extremely successful high gloss, financial drama is back, with Damien Lewis and Paul Giamatti once again going head to head. With lavish lifestyles and flamboyance galore, Billions is a show that will have you hooked from the off.

Now you’ve got an idea of what to watch, it’s time to get comfy on the sofa and relax after a long day at work!
