After purchasing a nice, new sofa, the big question is: How should I dispose of my old sofa?

Unfortunately, our delivery team can’t offer sofa collection as part of our service, but we can offer advice on the best ways to dispose of your old sofa.

Before making a decision, take a look at your sofa and ask yourself: ‘Is my sofa in good enough condition for someone else to use, or is it past its sell by date?’

If your sofa is still in reasonably good condition, you can always give it a new lease of life by giving it to someone who really needs it. There are a number of charities such as The Furniture Re-Use Network who help vulnerable people by distributing unwanted furniture at affordable prices.

Although we do not offer a collection service, we work closely with The British Heart Foundation, who sell unwanted furniture to help raise vital funds for their research.

The British Heart Foundation offers a sofa collection service, which can be booked here. Once you’ve requested a collection, a member of their team will be in touch within 72 hours to arrange a time and date that fits around your schedule.

Alternatively, you can call into your local British Heart Foundation store where one of their friendly members of staff will be happy to help you. Please ensure your sofa is still in good condition and fire safety labels are still attached before donation so it can be placed on sale straight away.

If you’re you feel your sofa is no longer beneficial to anyone and its best off in the bin, make sure you dispose properly – fly tipping is not big and it’s not clever!

It’s illegal to dump waste items such as sofas on public or private ground, and in doing so, you could incur fines up to £5,000 – and that’s the last thing you want!

To avoid fines, you can arrange for your local council to collect your old sofa, for a small fee, by visiting the Government website and checking the availability of large waste item collection in your area, or simply taking it to your local council’s household waste and recycling centre.

These are just a few of the options available, and it’s up to you to pick the best option for you before your new sofa arrives.
