Starting in September 2016, the event will feature more than 50 large Snowdog sculptures, measuring 1.5m tall, all of which have been beautifully decorated by a selection of local artists.
The event, which is inspired by the Channel 4’s animated short film, The Snowman and The Snowdog, will involve an interactive trail, were you will be able to collect points with the official app as those participating are challenged to find as many of the sculptures as possible.
The Snowdog trail will be based around the Tyne and Wear Metro line, and Snowdogs will be spread between Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside, Gateshead, Sunderland and South Shields, with people being encouraged to get out and about and rediscover their local communities.
It will be the first time the event has come to the North East, and organisers Wild in Art expect this year’s event to continue to build on the success of previous events in Norwich, Colchester and Bristol, with tens of thousands of people expected to participate in the event.
Since 2008, Wild in Art has delivered exceptional results with their mass participation events, with over £6m being raised for charitable causes, over £1m contributed to local creative communities, over £12m gained in media coverage and engaged over 55,000 young people in creative programs.
Following the completion of the ten week event, the Snowdogs will be auctioned off to help raise funds for St Oswald’s Children’s Hospice, who continues to do fantastic work for children and young adults with progressive, life threatening conditions throughout the North East.
