We Love MacMillian.
MacMillian is a fantastic organisation and we are happy to announce that we raised over £5000 when we took part in one of their biggest fundraising events around the UK.
At ScS we have over 95 stores nationwide and everyone got stuck in with a MacMillan coffee morning to raise a huge amount of money for cancer research.
Staff set up coffee stalls, baked cakes and brought in an array of sweet biscuits and treats for everyone to enjoy.
How did it all start?
It all started in 1990 when a local fundraising committee decided to hold a coffee morning where people donated the cost of their coffee to Macmillan.
The idea was very simple, yet very effective and it went national. It then became the world’s biggest coffee morning in 1991, when 2,600 people registered to hold coffee mornings across the country. Since then it has raised over £75 million in total for Macmillan Cancer Support and continues to help families affected by cancer.
The money raised by MacMillian provides help to the lives of people affected by cancer. This is how the money is used:
- £25 pays for a MacMillan nurse to support a family affected by cancer for one hour.
- £61 pays for four hours for a Macmillan benefits adviser to help someone struggling with the costs of cancer.
- £181 could pay for a Macmillan social worker or family support worker for a day.
- £278 could keep MacMillan information and support centres stocked for a month with all the resources it needs to support people affected by cancer.
