Employees at ScS have teamed up to help homeless people across the region this festive time with the Christmas Bag Appeal.
Caring staff based at our headquarters in Sunderland, launched an appeal for fellow staff members to donate a combination of common and luxurious items to fill as many handbags and sports bags as possible to pass on to people who find themselves homeless this Christmas.
Alex Bell, HR Administrator, spotted the appeal by Helping Homeless Women – North East on social media and set about rallying together colleagues to help generate much needed supplies.
Alex said: “I found out about this appeal on Facebook and immediately knew that it was something I wanted to help with. I mentioned it to colleagues at work and set about coordinating donations and making up bags. Not having access to basic supplies, such as soap and toothpaste, is something I’d never thought about before, but knew together the team at ScS could help. The locally ran community group are helping local homeless people and refugees based in the North East, and the bags are being dropped at homeless shelters and food banks across the region to be made available for those most in need. What’s fantastic about this appeal is that the bags will help people and charities based in the North East and efforts kept in the North East.”
The local group intends to grow its support and hopes to roll-out the bag appeal even further to ensure there are local ‘stores’ set up to help the homeless and other local charities all year round.
