To celebrate reaching 100 stores nationwide we called on local communities across the UK to nominate charities and other good causes to receive a donation from a newly-launched £10,000 celebratory fund.

As a thank you for the support received from local people and customers on its journey to 100 stores, the business wanted to put something back and asked local people to get involved by nominating local good causes to receive a donation. We received close to 2,000 nominations from members of the public, and we can now name the 100 benefiting charities and causes, one for every store!

One of those causes includes North East-based St Oswald’s Children’s Hospice, as chosen by residents in Sunderland, home of the group’s first-ever store. The hospice cares for children and young adults with progressive and life shortening conditions from across the North East. The hospice joins a wide variety of charities nominated by the British public, from as far north as Aberdeen’s CFINE Community Foods Initiative, to as far South as Plymouth’s St Luke’s Hospice. Others include Make a Wish Foundation of Southampton, which grants the wishes of children and young people living with life threatening illnesses, The Alzheimer’s Society, the leading dementia support and research charity in the UK, as nominated by people in Nottingham, and Claire House Children’s Hospice, as put forward by customers in Bromborough.

The ScS business was founded in 1894 and has evolved from a family-owned general home furnishing store in the North East of England to one of the UK’s leading sofa and carpet specialists, with 2,000 employees and an independent five-star rating by its customers. This year the group expanded its nationwide presence further, by adding three new stores to its branch network in Thanet, Plymouth and Straiton in Edinburgh, reaching the landmark of 100 stores.

Paul Burke, Sales Director at ScS, said: “We launched our ‘100 Good Causes’ campaign to say a massive thank you to each of the local communities across the UK that have supported us on our journey to reaching the milestone of 100 stores. It’s an incredible achievement and could not have been done without the hard work and dedication of our employees, past and present, and the many customers we have served over the years.

“We’re happy to be able to support 100 good causes close to the hearts of our people and customers and hope the money can go towards benefiting communities across the UK. As a business we now employ more than 2,000 people and together we look forward to seeing 100 local, hardworking good causes benefit positively from our celebratory fund.”
